Vanilla Porter

Beer Style:Porter
Recipe Type:extract
Description:

Super Simple Porter recipe…I tried to duplicate the Breckenridge Vanilla Porter. Very popular beer with my friends and especially my wife!

Ingredients:
  • 1 can John Bull London Porter 3.3 lb
  • 3 lbs dark amber extract
  • 1 cup Smirnoff Vanilla Vodka
  • 2 vanilla beans (get them at a health food store)
Primary Ferment: 7 days
Secondary Ferment: 7 days
Procedure:

This was basically a short boil, not a true “no boil” beer.
Bring 2 1/2 gallons of water to a boil, add the John Bull and amber extracts and boil for only 10-15 minutes!
The short boil allows a small protien break but won’t boil off the hop extract that is in the John Bull Porter.
Transfer to the primary with 2 1/2 gallons COLD water.
Pitch dry yeast that came with John Bull when temp reaches 70-75 degrees.
Cut the vanilla beans lengthwise and then chop into 1/2 inch long pieces…add these to a mason jar with 1 cup of the vanilla vodka.
Let the vanilla beans soak during primary (7 days).
Rack to secondary and dump all the vodka and vanilla beans into the secondary (7 days).
Carefully transfer to keg or bottling bucket taking care to leave the beans behind.
enjoy…
